The Weekend of Major Suckage

For about a month now I've been looking forward to the weekend before and the days preceding Thanksgiving because I've been dying to go on a road trip.  My mom and I planned to first go to San Simeon and go on a tour of Hearst Castle, then go to San Francisco and eat a few oysters.  Well on Sunday my mom kept saying things like "there's gonna be a storm Lauren."  "Lauren, check the weather on your computer." "They say it's going to be the biggest blizzard we've had!"

I had my eye on the prize: a lovely few days driving up the coast enjoying a great vacation.  On Monday we saw Harry Potter (my second time) with my grandparents then had some In-N Out afterward.  Little did I know at around 9:30pm when I was watching some Chelsea Lately in my bedroom my mom would come  in and tell me that we're leaving for Utah at that moment to beat the storm.  Hence the major suckage.

I was super depressed on the way back, so my mom drove home the entire way and I basically slept the entire time.  We got to Utah around 9am and the day started from there.  I went to my place of employment at the local Smith's in Herriman to do our family's Thanksgiving shopping, and while I was in there they asked me to work that night because the store was so busy.  Why was it so busy, you ask?  Everyone within a 5-mile vicinity thought it was the end of the world and felt it was necessary to buy every and any last minute item.

Throughout all this, in the back of my mind I had a feeling because we bailed on our vacation that this storm was going to be a lightweight.  Let's just say that part of my feeling was correct.  Right now as I type this blog the sun is high in the sky and the snow is melting.  It did get bad for a while yesterday; they closed the point of the mountain and even the U and BYU closed early.  It was not at all what people said it would be and I'm quite disappointed.  Have you seen the part in Jumanji when they're in the grocery store being hunted and the people of the town are just ransacking the store to get supplies?  That's what yesterday felt like.  Maybe next time it snows in a region where snow is a normal occurrence people can just accept the fact that white stuff will fall on the ground and they might have to drive in it.
