Mental Illness

Yes, I think my mother and I have a mental illness.  This weekend we decided to leave Herriman, UT on Friday at 9PM to go to Los Angeles, then return to Herriman at 11PM on Saturday night.  The reason: my grandpa's retirement party.  The way there wasn't half bad.  My nephew was with us so both my mom and I listened to our own individual iPods with headphones.  This provided a much needed relief as my mother's favorite music artist is Neil Diamond.  (sympathy is much accepted.)  I dozed off around 3 or 3:30AM and we got to LA at 6AM.  Eli did amazing, and we were ready for a fun day ahead of us!

A few days before we had forewarned my grandma that we would be arriving in the early hours of the morning, in fact the night before I had texted her and said we would get there around 6AM.  Not only we were near that time, but on the dot!  Of course the gate to their house was closed.  The following sight is something I never want to forget: my mom jumping the fence.  As Los Angeles can be sketchy in areas, what would you pay to see two white girls with a baby jumping a fence with suitcases, a stroller, and plastic bags?  I suspect a lot.  Well we finally got to sleep for another 2 hours.  Hallelujah.

I will leave the details of the party for my next blog post, but needless to say it was a lot of work BUT a lot of fun!  After everything settled down we left at 11PM MST.  The first two hours were fine because Eli was bushed and Mom and I could make comments about the day.  But when 2AM hit I was out.  Out like a light.  Then I was awoken at 4AM by a drunk person, oh wait, that was my mother drunken with no sleep.  So I drove from Vegas to Mesquite chewing on as many Cheez-Its, Sour Patch Kids, and Salt Water Taffys I could get.  Don't forget the Diet Coke.  As I was eating I thought to myself, "what else do you need in this life besides Cheez-Its, Sour Patch Kids, Diet Coke, and Salt Water Taffy?"  But anyway.

We finally arrived safe in the Salt Lake Valley at noon on Sunday, because as our luck would go, there was a huge thunderstorm between St. George and Cedar City and we had to stop for a few hours.  As the Poseys say, "if we didn't have bad luck, we'd have no luck at all."  Well I sign off to have my first real meal since Thursday not consisting of high amounts of sugar or french fries.

Haha. This is hilarious! You are right, I would have paid a lot to see that. You two. I wish I could have been there! But that we could have stayed and played!
