Texas Road Trip!

So I'm here to document the trip to Texas. Can I just say it was absolutely amazing and I hope to do it again really soon!
Our first stop was Dead Horse Point State Park which is a little North of Moab, UT. This has to be my favorite park in Utah. The legend goes that native Utahns would leave the Horses gated in, one side of the fence being actual fence and the other side a 2,000 ft. cliff. After the Utahns had the chosen the horses they wanted to use they would leave the others and eventually the horses would become so thirsty they would actually jump off the cliff because right below them is the Colorado River. Where the legend part comes in is that many people have said they have seen the horses running around at the bottom of the cliff. Pretty awesome stuff, and the best views you'll get of Utah.
After our nice stop at Dead Horse Point we literally booked it all the way to Austin, TX. However, as I was going in and out of consciousness somewhere between Utah and Texas, out of the corner of my eye I saw a sign the simply said "Posey." It had to be the coolest thing I've ever seen! I just couldn't figure out whether it was labeling a city, highway, farm, or whatever. All I gotta say is that it's the coolest place on earth!
As most Americans do, we vacationed over the Fourth of July weekend. We stayed with our wonderful friends the Hatch's who live in Round Rock, Texas! As is tradition with their family they always set off fireworks on the Fourth of July, the Posey's thought they would join in on this action. Well everything was going well, until the neighbors across the street set off this huge firework that misfired and came exactly straight toward all of us on the other side of the street. Literally missing us by inches, mainly because we all scurried into the garage for cover. We weren't discouraged, the work must go on. So we kept going! Roman candles, sparkles, huge ones that went in the sky, you name it. Well it was the neighbors turn and they decide to try another one of the same one that just misfired. IT DOES IT AGAIN! After that I was a little shaken, especially considering there were little kids around just bawling because they were scared. Needless to say in future years I'll be sticking to sparklers.
This was at Mount Bonnell in Austin, TX. It's a 98 stair climb to the highest point in Austin where you can see almost the entire city, including downtown and many of the surroundings areas. If you can't tell from the picture it was over 100 degrees with the worst humidity. We were dying!
The rock for which Round Rock, TX was named after! Story goes that the settlers in that area used the rock as a marking point. We had to be piggy-backed out there!
"Remember the Alamo!" Good times. The best part was the feeling when you walk inside of remembrance for all the people who fought so bravely at the Alamo. They truly were heroic.
A little south of San Antonio there are four 400-year old Catholic missions just sitting in the middle of San Antonio's urban area. This was the San Juan Mission and it was absolutely gorgeous! It included the famous Rose Window and an amazing cathedral where they still hold services to this day! If only it were air conditioned...
We also visited the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Memorial Library on the University of Texas campus. It was great to see because in my education we were only able to skim the influence and works of LBJ. It must've been so hard for him to take over after JFK was assassinated! Despite the fact that it was on UT campus, it was still good. But never fear, I kept the Trojan pride flashing a "Fight On" whenever possible.
This bridge on a freeway in Round Rock, TX where 2 million bats make their homestead. Every night at dusk they leave to get their nightly meal of Texas' delicious bugs! It was the closest I've ever been to a bat, especially that many! Very scary and to tell the truth, there was guano coming down everywhere if you were standing beneath them. I guess they don't like to poop in the bridge...
This was at Carlsbad Caverns in southern New Mexico! The coolest cave I've ever seen! It was 5 football fields long and literally it was a workout just to walk around the entire hike!
Four Corners National Monument! It was cool...but not really. Pretty much they built a cement slab in the middle of nowhere and called it a tourist attraction. BUT, I did get a pretty awesome necklace from one of the local vendors!
This was one of the Pueblo dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park. It was just amazing to see how they survived without modern amenities.
My favorite National Park in Utah- Arches National Park. Some of the greatest views the world has to offer!
Me trying to being the "fourth" gossip. I don't think it necessarily worked...
Needless to say we made it home all within six days. Some of the craziest/coolest things I've done but well worth it! Road trips are bomb!
